When the older generation of Shanghai residents talked about traffic in Shanghai,
they would talk more about trains and buses. Most of their destinations were not far away,
and most of them were confined to urban residences and workplaces.
As mentioned earlier, the lack of transportation restricted people from more distant areas from going to Shanghai.
At that time, most Shanghai residents came from other provinces next to Shanghai.
Therefore, if they wanted to return to hometown during the holidays, they can also take a train.
In addition, car rental business were also popular at that period.
Our team designed a foldable photo gallery to show old transportation in Shanghai commonly used by residents over the past few decades. Over time, the color of the photos gradually became richer.
When Shanghainese in the new era talked about transportation,
the travel mode they were talking about was no longer cars and trains.
They could use the convenient subway network at any time to travel around the city.
Also they can take advantage of Shanghai's airlines to travel to every corner of the world on weekends. We have designed two interactive maps to express the development of Shanghai's subway lines and international airlines.
